In 2021, I started experimenting with the wash and gos method taught by iamblackgirlcurls. I tried Innersense’s I create hold, and it didn’t work out for me. I eventually partnered with a curly cut stylist and she used Innersense’s I Create Volume as part of my wash and go combo and I loved it and I was able to replicate the results at home. So what is the difference between I Create Volume and I Create Hold?
Both I Create Volume and I Create Hold are packed with botanicals like aloe vera and can be used to define curls for wash and gos. I Create Volume is lightweight, Innersense describes it as a hair lotion, but it is clear and a little runny like a serum. I Create Volume adds control to the hair so the curls come together and there is minimal frizz. I Create Volume also does not contain any polymers.
I Create Hold is a sticky gel that adds weight to the hair and clumps curls together. I create hold does contain polymers which helps to elongate and define the curls. Polymers also help the product have more hold.

Innersense I Create Volume is the winner for Me
I have a lot of fine strands with a coarse surface texture. The trick for me is smoothing my hair without weighing it down too much. I Create Volume gets the job done. While it doesn’t create tons of volume, it does a good job of smoothing my hair without taking away too much Volume.
Innersense I Create Hold Works Well but…
I Create Hold is a nice gel, it gives great elongation and a nice hold. So there are two issues that keep me from falling in love with I Create hold… The first issue for me is that used as a topper gel it can leave a white-ish cast on my salt and pepper gray hair. The second issue for me is that my hair needs two toppers with I Create Hold. Sometimes the weight of two topper gels is too much and weighs my hair down, but when using a foam with I create hold, my set is too soft and I don’t get as much definition.
Both Innnersense I Create Volume and I Create Hold are Great Gels! I normally wait for them to go on sale at Ulta and stock up. When I want to have something on hand immediately I just grab them from Amazon.
