So next week I have my first Kinky Cut scheduled with a stylist from the Cut it Kinky directory. Cut it Kinky stylists have taken training with the founders of black girls I have never gone in for a hair cut, only a trim. I am nervous and very excited.

Straight hair whether it is naturally straight, straightened with heat, or chemically relaxed behaves predictably. It is easier to pick a style and as long as you have the length and density you can achieve it. Kinks and Curls are trickier, every curly has a different set of curls and coils on their head and every cut will vary from head to head.

Is a Kinky Cut Right for Me?

You should cut your hair how you wear it most often. I think I would like to wear wash and gos more often, but right now they are not my fave. They end in a goopy mess of expensive gels. I plan to ask my stylist if the cut would work with a twist out or a rod out or would it be difficult to adjust my cut after I lived in it for a few weeks.

It is hard for me to asses how my hair will look when properly set

Kinky Hair Cut Angles

Angles are mandatory in a tightly curled cut to keep from going straight on poodle! Some of the angles make me nervous on Day 1 hair, but look AHHMAHZING as the hair grows on like day 3. I’ve stalked the curl artist I plan to go to and it looks like she only gives sharp angles when absolutely necessary.

No More Puff to Fall Back On

I am going to have to step my styling came up because the cut I need to address the unevenness in my hair won’t allow me to fall back on my high puff. I feel up for the challenge

A Shape to Carry My Styles

I know how to get some banking definition out of a twist out, my problem is that trying to fluff it to get it to look “right”

So Much Gel!

I am hoping to learn proper application techniques and types of gels to use for my hair. Like I mentioned before parts of my hair never dry when I attempt a wash and go. There is a proper product to water ratio and I need assistance perfecting it. I’m excited to see what my hair could be when trusted to the hands of a stylist.
