I Used Olaplex on My Natural Hair for A Year

A little over a year ago I noticed my ends looked “fried” despite using heat once or twice a year and naturally coloring grays with Henna.

My Stash of Olaplex 0 and Olaplex 3 for Natural Hair

The Basics What is Olaplex & Is it Good for Natural Hair

If you thought your natural virgin natural hair was immune to damage, think again! Everyday wear and tear can still break bonds that make up the structure of healthy hair. Luckily, Olaplex has a wide range of products specifically formulated for bond repair – including their revolutionary Hair Perfector treatment!

Olaplex 3: Hair Perfector

This is THE SAUCE. This is the treatment that I use at least once every two weeks. It is a white creamy miracle in a bottle. It keeps my clingy ends at bay and no single strand knots as a result of using this magical treatment.

Olaplex 0: Intensive Bond Building Treatment

Olaplex 0 is an optional step that is applied to dry hair before Olaplex 3. When I first started using Olaplex treatments I used Olaplex 0, but to save time I only use Olaplex 3 now.

Olaplex 0 is also available on amazon.

How much Olaplex do I need for Natural Hair

I’m always looking for ways to give my high density natural hair the best treatment possible, and Olaplex 3 is an absolute must-have! I get around three to four uses from a standard 3.3oz bottle but during holiday season Sephora has larger 8oz size which is great value since you’ll easily get 8 uses out it – so I often pick up a few at that time of year. Applying it mainly on the mids to ends of your hair means you can give those older parts extra attention; making sure thick locks are given tender loving care too!

I treat my hair to some extra TLC by using Olaplex 3 twice a month on average, making one bottle last me between 6 to 8 weeks. In total I use around 6-8 of bottles of Olaplex per year to keep my coils in check.

Applying Olaplex 3 to Natural Hair – Salon Secret Revealed

Olaplex was created for ALL hair types, but as with most Hair Care Products making some slight adjustments for tight curls and coils yields better results. After getting some tips from my natural hair stylist, I’m now treating my coils right. Instead of just following the instructions on the bottle, I do what’s best for my tight curly hair.

I cleanse with a gentle shampoo and then get to work detangling for 15-20 minutes using Olaplex 3–this allows Olaplex 3 to work it’s magic! After that’s done, I rinse out the Olaplex 3 before conditioning and styling as normal. My tresses are loving this treatment!

Does Olaplex Help Natural Hair Growth

Olaplex has been a great addition to my hair care routine! Although Olaplex doesn’t directly contribute to hair growth, it can help with the length retention process. By preventing single strand knots, tangles, and breakage, Olaplex helps me extend the time between haircuts. This allows my hair the extra time needed to reach its full potential. So while Olaplex may not provide direct benefits to natural hair growth, it certainly helps me work towards my goals faster!

Overall, I am really pleased with how well Olaplex 3 works on my natural hair. My coils are popping and I have comparatively less single strand knots since using it consistently.
