For the last year, I’ve been living mostly in wash and gos and I have been loving it!

Curl Enhancing Products Wash and Go Products that Bring ALL The MOISTURE!

Ready for a perfect Wash and Go? Look no further! A combination of botanical gels, styling foams, styling serums, curling custards and gels will get you there– but it’s important to know which styler works best in what situation. Styling foam gives flexible hold while curling custard provides maximum control; meanwhile botanical gel lends that extra layer of moisture plus definition. When it comes to my wash-and-go, Botanical Styling products are what make all the difference! These stylers contain “humectants” like aloe or glycerin that help lock moisture into your hair. My personal favorite is Uncle Funky’s Daughter’s Curly Magic – think of it as a magical potion for stunning curls and coils! – but since these don’t deliver major hold power on their own, I pair them with something stronger from another product category (more details later).

Wash and Go Products for a Light and Fluffy Wash and Go

Styling Foams and Serums are excellent if your curls form easily, and you just need a little control while your hair dries. I combine styling foams and serums with curl enhancing products because I need more weight in my hair.

Mousse Def by the doux, I Create Volume by Innersense, and ReFlex by Tre-luxe are three of the light weight products I keep on hand for Wash and Gos.

I prefer more weight and control for my wash and go, so Mousse Def and ReFlex by Tre-luxe did not make it on my top 7 list, but if you prefer a lighter fluffier wash and go, they are great to have on hand.

Strong Hold Wash and Go Products

Strong Hold Wash and Go Prodducts, almost always contain polymers. The polymers provide a flexible hold, that minimize frizz and keep curls in place as they dry.

My favorite strong hold gels are Bamboo Ginseng Glaze by Trepadora and Bee Girl by the Doux. Strong Hold gels paired with botanical gels are my favorite wash and go combos.

7 of my Favorite Wash and Go Combos for my Type 4 Hair

After doing mostly wash and gos for over year, and testing different combos these are my favorite. I learned how to pair different gels to get different results from ” I Am Black Girl Curls”. 1.) Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Magic, Innersense I Create Volume, & Trepadora Bamboo Ginseng Glaze

My stylist used this combo during my last visit. This combo delivers the perfect combination of definition volume and elongation. I love my curly hair stylist for this combo, I would never have created this combo on my own.

This is the only combo on the list that includes a serum ( Innersense, I Create Volume). It adds a nice touch to the wash and go. I create volume helps my set to dry faster. More details on Trepadora Bamboo Ginseng Glaze in Combo .

2.) Uncle Funky Daughters Curly Magic & Trepadora Papaya Slip

Curly Magic is the foundation of this combo. Curly Magic pulls moisture into my hair and helps to start defining my curls. You will see it a few more times on this list ; ). The size shown in these pictures are the salon size.

I stock up whenever Uncle Funky’s Daugher has a sale on their website. Otherwise I picke it up from Target. in a smaller 12oz or 18oz size.

Trepadora Papaya Slip provides a nice “touchable” flexible hold. It is a favorite topper gel among many followers of I am Black Girl Curls. It is a UK based brand that can sometimes be hard to find in the US. It is currently available at my online store.

3.) Uncle Funky Daughters Curly Magic & Trepadora Bamboo Ginseng Glaze

Curly Magic is working its magic again in this combo. Laying the foundation for a great wash and go with those water-loving Humectants.

Bamboo Ginseng Glaze is another styler from Trepadora, but it has a noticeably stronger hold than Papaya Slip. It dries faster, has more shine, and more weight than Bamboo Ginseng Glaze.

I like this combo for a quick drying controlled Wash and Go.

4.) Uncle Funky Daughters Curly Magic & The Doux Bee Girl Curl Custard

Ok, Ok, Ok, this is the last combo starting with Curly Magic. Brings the Moisture and starts clumping the curls perfect setup for a Wash and Go.

Bee Girl Curl Custard by the Doux. It has a strong hold, using it with curly magic reduces the hold a little. Bee Girl has a lot of weight, so it adds a nice element of control.

5.) Kinky Curly Knot Today & Kinky Curly Curling Custard

Kinky Curly Knot Today and Kinky Curly Curling Custard are clean classics that deliver for a wash and go.

Kinky curly used to be a hard pass for me if I am being completely honest. I tried it years ago as part of the LOC (Liquid Oil Cream) method and my hair would NEVER try. It was a no-go for the LOC method, but it works lovely for a wash-and-go.

Kinky Curly delivers a medium hold without any polymers. These products are easily accessible, I usually grab mine from target.

6.) The Doux Bee Girl Curly Custard

This is a New Favorite! I tried it for the first time in the summer of 2022.

Bee Girl Curly Custard is the ONLY one product Wash and Go I have every successfully achieved. I don’t do it often, but in a pinch it is wonderful. It dries fast, has tons of definition and a firm hold. My stylist advised me not to use strong hold gels alone (on the regular). That is the only reason I don’t use this gel alone all the time. Occasionally though…I reach for the Bee Girl Custard.

7.) Bomb A** Fro & The Doux Bee Girl

I’ve only used this combination once or twice, but it has a nice weight, and both gels have a nice hold. The control is Ahhmazing. This combo gets the curls in order and the weight of the gel helps to combat frizz.
